about james reed
As a boy I was most often pursuing my love of baseball or hockey, although I was eager to partake in all sports. When I was not on the playing field, I could often be found sketching in my notebook or helping my Dad with a household project. Like any child, I fell in love with Saturday morning Cartoons, but soon my curiosity led me to wonder how they were made... it was then that I discovered an enormous desire to become a part of the process. It would not be until my high school years that I discovered the art of animation and my interest animation as a career took hold. I began researching methods and tools for creating animations, and schools offering programs that could train me. I immersed myself in visual arts throughout high school, dabbling in pottery, water color and other traditional mediums... it would still be Saturday morning cartoons that inspired me.
I began formal training as a 3D animator beginning in 2000. I would quickly learn the strong relationship between animation and web technology and became deeply involved with Web Design as well. Putting my skills to good use, me and three partners founded a start-up multimedia firm in Vancouver and that would mark the commencement of my design career.
Fascinated by new techniques and learning new technologies, I have continued to constantly develop my 3D knowledge and skills in balance with my graphic design career. I am continually enthralled with the synergy between the graphic design, web design and 3D animation worlds.
Still fond of the outdoors, I now balance my professional career with the pursuit of recreations such as cross country skiing and hiking. Naturally a strong passion for photography has developed, as I struggle to capture nature’s beauty on film.
My goal now is to enjoy life to its fullest and become the best I can be at anything and everything I do... whether it be father, son, brother, husband, neighbour or designer.
